The roots

Our roots are so deep, that it is hard to say since when we have been producing wine. For centuries, surely.

Our homeland has always been Abruzzo. In a distant past, we used to make wine for home consumption. We currently produce 5 million and a half bottles every year, but our love of vines and our land has never changed.

ROWS OF FORCA DI LUPO

1970s

Although their wine was still sold in bulk, quality was already a key focus for Vincenzo Spinelli. He would have to wait some ten years, when his sons Carlo and Adriano started to work in the company full time, to give his project a decisive boost.

1980s

Production capacity increased and they carefully started to control all production stages, from the selection of grapes through to vinification and bottling. Quality became a flagship. Commercial strategies changed and were refined, and so was the development of the company's sales network.

1992

The owner took a final big leap when he decided to expand the company in 1992. With new, larger production premises and with advanced machinery and equipment, Vincenzo Spinelli finally completed the project he spent a lifetime on: creating a company capable of combining high quality and high production volumes. And here we are today.

CANTINE SPINELLI

The Present

We are proud of the many recognitions that our wines have been awarded at major international competitions in the industry

Cantine Spinelli currently produces DOC and IGT Abruzzo wines, 65% of which are exported. Rural tradition has it that grapes should be crushed with bare feet. We keep tradition alive in our love and respect of our land and its products. For the rest, the company now uses advanced growing, production and ageing techniques.

The vinification process takes place according to all the rules that guide the production of quality wines, which are continuously improved with the help of skilled oenologists throughout Italy. Local grape varieties – such as Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Pecorino, Passerina, Cococciola – are our pride. Our whole history is linked to the enhancement of traditional regional wines.

The company uses underground rooms for wine storage and finishing, where natural temperature ranges between 18 and 22°C. A new room was created in 1999 and is used for refining and ageing wines (mainly red wines) in Slavonian oak barrels.

The growing appreciation we receive from our customers is most certainly the best confirmation we could get for the quality of our work. We are also proud of the numerous awards that our wines won in the past few years at the most important international competitions in the industry. We are also proud that our work has helped the wines and the flavours of our region gain ground from Europe to America, Asia and Oceania. It is just our way of being: never far from our land, always close to the world.

The Family

Dedication, respect and passion for our work

How many harvests have been made since Vincenzo Spinelli decided to open his company? Many, more than forty. And yet today, you can still find him there, with the same engaging energy, supervising each step of the process firsthand, and dedicating all of his time to it. He was always guided by his dedication, respect and passion for his work; he passed the same values down to his children, and he is now trying to pass them down to his grandchildren.

Our company is a family business, meaning that everything that really matters is part of our history. It is rooted in our land, and it has always been passed on from generation to generation. Today, the main keepers of this tradition are Carlo and Adriano Spinelli, the two sons of Vincenzo. Carlo Spinelli personally controls the business, from relationships with customers, agents and importers to the corporate image.

Adriano Spinelli is the keeper of the oenological knowledge. He grew up in the company, between tanks and barrels of Montepulciano and Pecorino, and he is currently the company's technical director, which is not always an easy role. He deals with all aspects related to production and quality: He works with Mr. Riccardo Brighigna, one of the most highly regarded oenologists in the international arena.

Carlo and Adriano were recently joined by the young Vincenzo Spinelli, Carlo's son, who brought a new twist to the sales department by taking care of exports in particular.
