What a revelation at the Vinitaly!
After the closing of Vinitaly 2012, the company Spinelli would like to thank everybody – clients, professionals, cooperators, friends – they have honored it with their presence and they have contributed to the success of its participation. As underlined by the communication of Spinelli at the fair, above all we hope that the encounter with our wines was, once again, a “revelation”. There is still a lot that our land and our company can give to the world of the wine. With our passion, we will work day by day to let you discover it.

The excellent quality of the grape harvest 2011 is confirmed
The characteristics of the wines of the grape harvest 2011 confirm the forecasts and the data collected during the month of September. The choice to anticipate the harvest of the white vine revealed itself to be decisive, due to very high temperatures measured from middle of August to middle of September. With the anticipation of the harvest we managed to preserve the aromas of the white grapes, and obtained fresh, fruited and citrusy wines, without losing the sharp structure.
Regarding the red wines, thanks to the exceptional health conditions of the grapes, we managed to harvest them at their maximum level of maturity, according to the desired goals for several wines. Therefore, we have red wines with a brilliant balance in flavor, both the ones intended to the immediate consumption, and the ones intended to the long ageing.
What a Revelation: Spinelli at Vinitaly
“What a revelation” is the slogan that Spinelli chooses to present itself at Vinitaly 2012 (25-28 March, pav. 11 stand D2). There is a hint of provocation, of course, because a producer that sells almost 4 million bottles every year cannot be defined a revelation, and not even the territory, the Abruzzi, whose importance in wine production is by now universally recognized.
Yet, there is a lot left to do and to tell: abroad, for example, where the company Spinelli sells more than 70% of its production and where there are a lot of people asking themselves, where Abruzzi is located in the boot-shaped Italian peninsula; but also in Italy, where producers like Spinelli, that are internationally known and multi-awarded, are still not sufficiently recognized.
Therefore, Vinitaly 2012 represents for Spinelli clearly the occasion to introduce his wines, which are a refined and straightforward expression of the unique character of Abruzzi. But it is also an important moment within the new communication project, that tends to reaffirm a big wine tradition with originality and strength, and that is indissolubly bound to the local roots and to the love for a special land.
New wine cellar: the foundations have been laid
The work for the realization of the new wine cellar, which has been designed for a big production and storage capacity, proceeds in a fast.
The laying of the foundations is a crucial phase for every company. In the construction of the new wine cellar, we got over it in a brilliant way: we completed the foundations and now we are building the walls that support the ground on the uphill side. The infrastructural work is also at a good stage.
All in all, the work is proceeding in the best way, also thanks to the commitment of the workers, that are coherent with the importance of the project. We are just at the beginning of a big work, but the unmistakable profile of our wine cellar already takes shape: a “house of the wine” set in the hill, to express architecturally the strong bond with the territory that characterizes us. As the architect Fiorenzo Valbonesi says: “It is an attempt to tell the Abruzzo region in a wine cellar of big dimensions, while searching for the best integration with the environment”.
Ninnì was born - Bottled yesterday, on the 26 of October, the new wine of Cantine Spinelli.
In the family of our wines, besides the young, the mature and the old important ones, there is him: Ninnì, the boy. Ninnì, which in the dialect of Abruzzi means, as said, boy, is our new wine. He is born on the 26 of October 2011, i.e. this wine was bottled just yesterday, and it brings with it all the perfumes of a harvest that gave us full-bodied grapes with excellent sugar ranges. A wine that was born under a good star, we could say, which is ready to go together with the delicacies of the autumn thanks to its brilliant color and its fresh and lively taste.
Ninnì, the first wine of the new Spinelli harvest, will be on the shelves starting from the 6th of November 2011.
Reduced volumes and excellent quality of the grapes in our harvest 2011. We forecast full-bodied and well-structured wine.
A season with a particular climatic trend has given a clear mark to the grape harvest 2011 in the hills of the Val di Sangro. The climate was normal until the 10th of August, but afterwards it was different because of the extraordinary dryness: exactly for two months, until the 10th of October, the rainfalls were absent. As the first, unavoidable consequence we have registered a decrease of the yield in quantity: the reduction has been of 25%, compared to the production volumes of the last season.
There are however a lot of positive implications. It has been possible to arrive to the harvest with a perfectly healthy and intact product, and this is an advantage for the quality. The harvest itself took place in ideal climatic conditions. And finally, the sugar level of the grapes turned out to be above the normal level and this lets us forecast well structured and full-bodied wines.
To sum up, a good harvest.
The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Spinelli conquers a prestigious podium
The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Doc "Spinelli" 2009 conquers this year a prestigious podium on the International Wine Challenge in London.
In an oenological competition, which is considered to be among the most important in the world with more than 10.000 wines that are assessed by a professional jury, our Montepulciano d'Abruzzo has won the Bronze Medal. Another confirmation of the growth in quality and personality of our wines.
The new Cantina Spinelli
Designed by Fiorenzo Valbonesi, the winery expresses architecturally a strong bond with the territory, which is a distinguishing characteristic of the Cantine Spinelli and of their production. Planned for a large production and storage capacity, it extends itself on a well-thought variety of hypogean and above ground zones.
The work for the construction of the new winery “Terra d’Aligi” of the Spinelli family in Atessa in Val di Sangro has started. Designed by Fiorenzo Valbonesi, architect of the “case del vino” and already author of prestigious constructions for great names of the national enology, the new winery expresses architecturally that strong bond with the land, which is a distinguishing characteristic of the Cantine Spinelli and of their production: starting from the collocation, in the heart of the incomparable natural scenario of the colline Frentane, in front of the Maiella, through the vast proprietary vineyards.
Planned for a large production and storage capacity, the winery extends itself on a well-thought variety of hypogean and above ground zones. The vinification system follows gravity, which means that the loading area is placed higher than the vinification zone and the manufacturing building. The barrique cellar is completely underground, in order to achieve the maximum energy saving and a reduced environmental impact. Between the barrique cellar and the ageing zone, which is made of stainless steel, there are the sales and the management sections, which are completely above ground. Finally, beneath these sections there is the large tasting room, that looks onto the barrique cellar and the zone of the fermentation vessels.
A great winery, in which the Spinelli family expresses all its love for the land and its passion for high-quality wine, which are essential references also when it comes to large production volumes.
