Some say that this great variety from Bordeaux actually originated in Italy, that it originally was the famous Biturca celebrated in ancient times by Pliny and later brought to France by the Roman Legionaries. What is for certain it that the hills of Abruzzo offer the perfect dry and windy climate and clay, well-drained soil for cultivating this grape variety. The result is a ruby red wine, with intense aroma of ripe fruit, typical grassy notes and fine hints of spice, with a harmonic, smooth tannin flavor.
